tomorrow the DC Council will take its second and final vote on a comprehensive smokefree workplaces bill. in the initial vote, the DC Council voted 12-1 in favor of the bill.
So conflicted.... the restaurant lover in me would love to see the ban passed, as one realizes how wonderful dining in a completely smoke-free environment is when one lives in MontCo... but the libertarian in me is screaming in horror at the idea of governments legislating this kind of activity.
The best part about the DC smoking ban is the "Ban the Ban" group that opposed it. A quote from their website (bantheban.org): "And let’s not be discouraged. We fought the good fight, and at the end of the day we should sleep well, if for no other reason than that we can be secure in the knowledge that we aren’t earnest do-gooding busy-bodied hacks who rational people hate. Which is nice."
Yeah, the snarky libertarian in me agrees with 'em.
