Ryan Star Finally Drops His New Album

I first came upon Ryan Star during season two of Rock Star (Rock Star: Supernova). He impressed me with his raspy vocals and strong performance to finish out the competition; however, I really hadn’t considered what would become of him afterwards. But when I heard his intial recordings afterwards, my interest was definitely piqued. Unfortunately, Star's CD, 11:59, had its release date pushed back too many times to count. But the Matt Serletic-produced album finally dropped earlier this month, and it's and it's a very solid slice of anthemic, triumphant modern rock.

Under The Influence

Virginia Beach modern rockers The Influence have got a new album, Falling Objects, dropping next month, on September 14th. It's produced by Ted Comerford, and MetroMusicScene.com is premiering the potentially seizure-inducing video (check out the flashing lights and rotating people!) for their first single, the DC101-ready “Slippin’.” The Influence brings their heavier-edged, yet melodic sound to the table, floating a vocal hook that sticks in your noggin' on top of a bed of some nice crunchy, churning guitars. Take a bite.

I Was A Teenage Anarchist

Not much posting going on these days, I’m afraid. But I’m really digging Against Me!’s “I Was A Teenage Anarchist.” It’s razor-sharp pop punk, produced by Butch Vig. Though the vocals aren’t quite as snotty as Billy Joe’s, it’s still just as catchy as any Green Day single. And the video? A slow-motion chase and beat-down of the main character by the po-po. Don’t mess with the John Q. Law!
