Jet City

It's another totally busy week. But here's Queensryche rocking out live on "Jet City Woman" from back in the day. Just ignore singer Geoff Tate's spandex and you'll be aight.

Mac N Cheese

I was watching Comedy Central this weekend, and Steve Byrne's little bit on macaroni and cheese had me cracking up for some reason. Here's a little clip.

Threefer

Giving the police Lamborghinis just isn't fair.

KNOPFLER: Pete over at Ickmusic has a nice live Dire Straits show from 1992 up over here

STRIKE: I just can’t resist this Halloween-themed time waster….Cat Bowling

OVERRATED: I saw Rachel Getting Married this weekend – Roger Ebert gave the emotionally-wrought film with a home documentary visual flavor four stars, but frankly, I thought the editor was asleep at the switch – cut out a half an hour or so, and you’ve got one taut movie.

A Case of the Fridays

Well, another week has rolled around, and it’s time for another case. We’ll kick off things this week with “La Conchita” by State College’s The Rustlanders (above). It’s got a stripped-down Jayhawks-esque alt-country twang to it, with a pretty tasteful arrangement. If you like what you hear, The Rustlanders will be at The Red & The Black in DC on Thursday, October 30th.

MP3: La ConchitaThe Rustlanders

And then we close out with Matthew Sweet’s “We’re The Same.” It might not be “Girlfriend,” but it’s good power pop along the lines Fountains of Wayne w/ smartly melodic guitar lines and Sweet harmonies. If you like what you hear, Matthew Sweet will be at the State Theatre in Falls Church, VA Wednesday, October 29th.

Mercy Mercedes Makes A Video

Looks like one of my favorite power pop bands, Mercy Mercedes, has actually got a video now (albeit on MTVu), which is cool. It's not the greatest video (they've apparently gone for the Ferris Bueller motif), but it's aight, and the song ("The Perfect Scene") is dynamite.

Upcoming Jeter Show In November

We’ve got a show coming up November 8th at Bistro Europa in Old Town Alexandria, so it’s never too early to mark it down on your calendar.

Patty Griffin - "Goodbye"

I've been listening to a bit less power pop and rock these days, and more singer/songwriter stuff. Perhaps it's the turning of the seasons. Anyway here's Patty Griffin and her amazing voice performing a acoustic version of her beautiful song "Goodbye."

Guess Who's Back?

Have you been waiting patiently for a Shady return? Then you can check out Eminem's new track, "I'm Having A Relapse" over at Pretty Much Amazing here. Marshall Mather's new album is aptly titled Relapse, and Dr. Dre is slated to handle the majority of the production duties.

And a little bonus, Nah Right has got the remix of Coldplay's track "Lost"
here, featuring Jay-Z on rhymes and added coolness.

A Case of the Fridays - Early Edition

It’s been an outrageously busy past few weeks, but why should that stop the music? Anyway, I’m really digging “Way Up,” the first single off of Shane Hines & The Trance’s upcoming EP, The Glory Journal. It’s a slickly produced modern-rock track (not in a bad way), with one big knockout hook of a chorus. Shane’s (above) got some vocal range. Like what you’re hearing? They’ve got a show this Saturday, October 18th in Arlington at IOTA w/ Fools & Horses.

MP3: Way UpShane Hines & The Trance

And we close out the week with some music from Michigan, with The Hard Lessons’ track “See and Be Scene.” It’s punchy, catchy stuff, with Thin Lizzy-esque guitar riffs, female/male vocal trade-offs, and overdriven keyboards. If you like what you hear, The Hard Lessons will be at IOTA Thursday, October 23rd with The City Veins.

Green Day Hearts Butch Vig

Yup, Green Day is officially recording their new album with Butch Vig, who apparently figures it'll be #1...

Lowry @ Dahlak Tuesday

Lowry brings their Postal Service-esque vocals, blips and bleeps and fragility to their music. They’ll be at Dahlak in DC this Tuesday, October 14th.

New Matthew Ryan - "Some Streets Lead Nowhere"

Here's Matthew Ryan's new track, "Some Streets Lead Nowhere." It's a pensive, lyrically-driven slow-burner.

Chinese Tease

Any GnR news, and I just can't resist. So mark your calendars, kids - Chinese Democracy has (another) official release date, and it's actually a month and a half away - November 23rd. It's a Best Buy exclusive release, remember, and, of course, make sure you line up to receive your free Dr. Pepper along with your copy of the CD later this November...

A Little Birdmonster

I'm digging this stripped down acoustic performance by Birdmonster of "Born To Be Your Man" in Heron's Head Park. It's just so bouncy and catchy.

Have Some Cake...

It's an insanely busy time, but I give you Cake's live cover of "I Will Survive" from a 2004 show. Relish it.

Eminem's "Stan"

I've been watching VH1's 100 Top Hip Hop Songs (it's hard to turn away). Anyway, here's the extended video version of one of my favorite tracks, Eminem's "Stan."

New Butch Walker

One of my favorite artists, Butch Walker, has got a new album Sycamore Meadows dropping November 11th, and you can download the first single, “The Weight of Her” for free over at Amazon at the link here. He’s also got a video for the track “Ships In A Bottle” up here – In it, he walks through the rubble of his house that was destroyed in the California wildfires. And yes he’ll be back here in DC soon, at DC9 on November 17th to play some songs for you. And you, too.

He's Not Hootie...

Yeah, it's all videos this week, cause I'm busy as hell. Anyway, Darius Rucker's new country CD is out. His first single (video above), "I Don't Think I Don't Think About It" is pretty damn good. What I find hilarious is that CC hated Hootie and the Blowfish with a passion, but bought Darius Rucker's country CD as soon as it dropped. Go figure.

Chubb Rock - "Treat Her Right"

I was watching VH1's 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs the other night, and they included Chubb Rock's "Treat Her Right" - I hadn't heard it in oh-so-long, and it still sounded oh-so-good! Take a listen!
