A Little Humor

dude, this video is effin' hilarious. two asian dudes doing their best to lip-sync to the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way."

and since i just mentioned the Backstreet Boys on my blog, i feel required to mention something that rocks to clear my name. Work For It has a kick-ass live version of Green Day's "She," on his current posting. it rocks. hopefully this will redeem me.
So You Want To Drop $333K...

if you want to drop the kiznash, the new Rolls-Royce Phantom will more than fit the bill. but i still can't fathom why somebody would drop that much cash on one of these big and bulky beasts. i'd rather get myself a ferrari for weekends, and pick up a nice mercedes as a daily driver. and then go swimming in the leftover cash.

Sweet

recently, my local supermarket hasn't been carrying my favorite kind of ice cream, Breyer's Light Mint Chocolate Chip. so i found myself a new drug - Edy's Light Thin Mint Cookie. it's oh-so-tasty (though not as good as the Breyer's). oddly enough, i'm not overly fond of Thin Mints in cookie form, but i dig 'em smashed up in mint vanilla ice cream.

New Guster Soon

although Guster is one of my favorite bands, i apparently missed this billboard.com article about their new album, Ganging Up On The Sun, that's supposed to drop this spring. stream Guster's new song, Manifest Destiny, on their myspace site.

New MP3s!

there's the new bunch of MP3s for February 2006 - go get 'em!

well, here it is, 12:42, and have i figured out my 8-track yet? no. have i bought some food for my bare refrigerator shelves? no. but i did just watch The Station Agent. it's a wonderful little movie. and i still got time to pick me up some foodage.
Gun, 1981
so i finally got to see the Warhol exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery yesterday. it wasn't the life-altering experience i had hoped, but it was pretty cool, nonetheless.

Time To Read
i'm gonna have to set aside some time to read the manual for this thing. luckily, it's Super Bowl "Hype Week," so there's no football tomorrow. so my goal for sunday is figuring out how to use my new 8-track. and i may want to buy some food.

A Case of the Fridays

First up is "Little Round Mirrors," from Harvey Danger. Their new album, Little By Little, was one of my favorites of 2005 - and the entire thing is available for free download on the Harvey Danger website. I really dig Sean Nelson's James-esque vocals on this song, and the arrangement and instrumentation is top-notch.

And we close with "Everything Good," an eighties-sounding slice of pop from TwinTwelve. The lush female vocals and irresistable chorus will have you singing long after the record stops.

Pink Is The New Pink

i just had to post this picture. anyway, Pink is back with a new album, I'm Not Dead, and plenty of attitude. and my man Butch Walker was involved in the production and shiznit (along with others), so i'm intrigued.
Oprah Feels "Really Duped"

the big O had James Frey, the much-maligned author of "A Million Little Pieces," on her show Thursday to confront him about the many claims that his book isn't exactly a "true story."

as i stated in this blog before, the book is a riveting, amazing read, whether it's fiction or non-fiction. though it does disappoint me that things claimed to be true may really not be.

Rock Tomorrow

tomorrow we (Jeter) will be playing the open mic at Pharaoh's in Adams Morgan - it's hosted by the Strohs, and it'll be a good time.

hopefully i won't get lost on my way there!
Holden DCist Article

there's a neat little article on MetroMusicScene.com founder Mike Holden, complete with interview, in today's DCist. You can check out the article here, and you can check out Mike Holden's myspace site and hear his new EP, Level, here.

Army of Atlantic

according to DCist's January 20th issue,
Army of Me is close to signing with Atlantic Records. very cool. these guys are pretty damn good, and i especially enjoy their song "Perfect." take a listen.

MP3: Perfect - Army of Me

UPN and the WB Have Joined Forces

UPN and the WB have merged into one new network, The CW. now there's only one network to make fun of.

Willy Porter

i just found this guy as i was scouting the upcoming shows at the various venues around town. Willy Porter is slated to play with Glen Phillips (the former frontman of Toad the Wet Sprocket) at the Birchmere in May. anyway, he's got a cool voice that's kind of a combination of Tom Petty and Marc Cohn. the music might be a little bit sappy and mellow, but it's well-produced, and it's a peaceful listen.

MP3: Unconditional Love - Willy Porter
Hmmmm....

i really don't have anything to say. so i will just put up my picture of graffiti.

WTF?

But You Know They Really Suck

here's Fortune's 2006 100 Best Companies To Work For.
But Of Course You Should Have A Blog...

there's many different motifs for blogs. music, political commentary, etc. however, this guy keeps a photo record of his daily outfits. it's rather humorous. and it's almost inspiring me to take a picture of my shirt. almost.

thanks to Davezilla for the tip

A Case of the Fridays

Now I don't watch The O.C., and I'm a tad late getting into
Death Cab For Cutie, I admit. But that doesn't change the fact that "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" is one beautiful acoustic love song.

And we close with the track "Our Time," by local band
ADHD. I'm a sucker for big soaring vocals with anthemic choruses, what can I say? And if you like what you hear, check out ADHD live at DC9 on January 24th.

Biting the Hand That Feeds

this year's
American Idol contestants will not be singing any Kelly Clarkson songs - she's not letting any of her songs be used by contestants on the show. Simon was not pleased.

"I think that by ignoring the show you're ignoring the audience who put you there," Cowell said Tuesday.
Regardless

i just finished reading James Frey's A Million Little Pieces. there's been some recent claims contesting the accuracy of this "true" story of addiction and detox, and i haven't been following them very closely. but regardless, this is one of the most riveting, amazing books that i've ever read, fiction or non-fiction.

*thanks to CC
for the book

Surrogate Review

so i didn't get to see the
Marah show saturday night at IOTA, cuz it was sold out. but here's a Washington Times review to tell you just how much they rocked the joint.

thanks to Dan for the link...

American Idol

the
new season begins Tuesday. find yourself a television, and make sure you tape Scrubs. Simon Cowell loves you.
Time For Chucky?

everyone seems to be blaming the Colts' loss to the Steelers on Peyton Manning. but perhaps some of that blame should fall on Tony Dungy. maybe it's time to bring Jon Gruden in as head coach to once again take a Tony Dungy-assembled team to the next level (see Tampa Bay). Tony is already waffling about his return next year, so perhaps the Colts' front office should be placing a call to Florida...
Some Jam?

here's a tasty jam by Robert Randolph & the Family Band. with its funkadelic bassline and its scorching pedal-steel, this tune will bounce you off your couch...

this dude just solved one in a world-record 11.13 seconds at the International Rubik's Cube Comptetition

Instead...

if i had things my way, i'd currently be rocking out to Marah right now at IOTA. unfortunately, the show had sold out by the time CC and I got there, so we went food shopping instead. guess i'll have to wait until next year...

Better Than Prozac?

dogs apparently need no help lifting the spirits of lonely people. a study has found that nursing home residents felt much less lonely after spending time alone with a dog than when other people joined in the visit.

To Do List

i'm looking forward to some good music in arlington this weekend - i'll be hitting the Marah show at IOTA on Saturday, and Monday i'll be going to see Paul Kamran w/ his band at Galaxy Hut. excellent.

Pigs From Space?
nope, just genetically-engineered pigs from Taiwan...

Acoustic

i'm a big fan of Matthew Ryan. he's an amazing songwriter with a gravelly, springsteen-ish voice, and his album, East Autumn Grin is one of my all-time favorites, electrified and triumphant. but here's a couple stripped-down acoustic demo versions of two of the best tracks on that album...

Oh My!

Howard Stern made his debut on Sirius Satellite Radio on Monday, where he introduced George Takei as his new on-air personality. Takei will serve as in-studio announcer for the first week; however, after that, he'll merely record segments for the show but will not be in the studio.

My Two Cents

it looks like the government has gone and done it, raising the cost of mailing a letter from 37 to 39 cents. guess i'll be buying a sheet of two-cent stamps, along with a bunch of other people.

Wolfgang? Is that You?

apparently, no. tests to determine if this is actually Mozart's skull were "inconclusive." anyway, i just wanted to post the results as a follow-up to a previous post.
Absolutly

yeah, you know you love those Absolut ads almost as much as you love the actual vodka. or perhaps even more. anyway, go check out this site that's got a gallery of all the Absolut ads.

man, Shawshank Redemption and Remember the Titans are both on at the same time - i can't decide which one i want to watch, so i'm forced to keep switching back.
Roaming the Streets

here's a few of the pictures I took during my walk down Wilson Boulevard in Arlington...

just part of the gentrification that's going on...

i always wondered what these statues were supposed to be

nobody gives you a better deal than Bob Peck...

...except maybe that euro car repair shop down the street

Track 13s

here's a couple of tracks, the first one of Wyclef Jean w/ the Fugees. yeah, Lauryn Hill's got an amazing voice, but she's got an incredible rap delivery, too. take a listen.

the second track is Wyclef solo, and it makes use of the "House of the Rising Sun" chord progression quite nicely. i usually don't post tracks that are primarily in French, but i figure i should expand my horizons - check out the Lauryn Hill vocals in the outro. coincidentally, both songs are the thirteenth track on their respective CDs.
