VOIP

i'm sick of being forced to pay Verizon lucrative amounts for what little service they offer, so i'm considering getting VOIP (phone over the internet) from Vonage. it seems like VOIP offers more services and minutes for the buck, but i'm concerned with how clear the sound will be - anybody out there have VOIP?

The Return

well, i'm back. i've had a lot of medical stuff to take care of recently. i'm fine now, but i had a small stroke in my cerebellum last week. so i've had to see a bunch of doctors, have a bunch of tests, and begin getting medicated. it's a continuous process - and i'd recommend not getting shots in your stomach, by the way. i also had to deal with moving apartments and losing my internet connection for over a week. this cable modem stuff is like crack. anyway, i've received a lot of help from my friends and family during this, and i want to give them a shout out, as well as thanks. anyway, i'll be back posting going forward, my faithful blog readers...

Ben Jones is recommending that Dukes of Hazzard fans everywhere pass on seeing this summer's movie version of the classic TV show. i'd have to say that i agree with him - frankly, there's no way this movie should have been made.

Driving & Calling

Drivers distracted by cell phone conversations quadruple their risk of a serious accident, according to new research out of Australia. The University of Sydney study also found that hands-free mobile phones are no safer than handheld mobile phones while driving.

Nothing Like It

ahhh....there's nothing like being up at 12:41, watching Jackass and listening to some Army of Me - it'd be even better if my alarm wasn't set for 6:00. guess that nap when i got home from work kind of f'd up my sleep schedule. but there really isn't anything better than watching jai-alai players hurl oranges at Steve-O's and Johnny Knoxville's asses.

Pepto Take Me Away!

i'm sitting here on the couch, slowly recovering from the intense hearburn i had last night. man, heartburn is no fuckin' joke, and it hurts like hell! i'm guessing it was caused by a combination of eating quickly and the carrots. anyway, there's two good movies on TV right now - Pi and House of Games - i'll inevitably end up switching back and forth between 'em.

Too Much Pi?

that one was just too easy. in Tokyo, a Japanese psychiatric counselor has recited pi to 83,431 decimal places from memory, breaking his own personal best of 54,000 digits and setting an unofficial world record, a media report said Saturday. that seems to have been a good use of his time.

Floyd

oh man, i was just sitting there with a stupid grin on my face, watching my favorite band of all time, reformed and playing live on stage at Live 8. Breathe, Money, Wish You Were Here, and Comfortably Numb. of course, MTV in its infinite wisdom, decided to cut off the end of Comfortably Numb during David Gilmour's solo, and in the process, stopped me from seeing what is possibly the greatest guitar solo of all time. but how would they know that, they're just "music television."
Live 8

stop teasing us and just fucking show Pink Floyd already! and the rest of the coverage is fucking terrible - maybe half a song from a band, and then cutting to worthless commentary and crowd interviews? just show the music, MTV!!! isn't that what you're supposed to be all about?
