Not A Vette, But...

A golden 1954 Oldsmobile concept car sold at auction this weekend for $3.24 million. The Oldsmobile F-88 is similar to the Chevrolet Corvette concept car -- they were termed "dream cars" at the time -- that debuted a year earlier and quickly entered production. Both were two-seat roadsters with fiberglass bodies.
Beaten Like An Animal!

of the 38 previous Super Bowls, 25 have matched teams with a human mascot against an animal mascot. the human has beaten the animal in 18 of those showdowns, a whopping 72 percent. two of those wins are by the Patriots over the Panthers and Rams, though the Pats were mauled by the Bears 46-10 in Super Bowl XX. this statistic, though, could prove ominous for a Philadelphia team represented by an endangered species.

No Crust!

Nick Mason, the drummer for the best band of all-time, Pink Floyd, will be releasing a book on April 1, 2005 titled, "Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd," complete with Storm Thorgerson cover. i think the subject is self-explanatory. and i think i just may order it.
Purchasing Power

oh, i just made a nice little online purchase today with my $50 Barnes & Nobel gift card - 2 CDs and one DVD...
- "Worse for the Wear," by New Amsterdams
- "You Forgot It In People," by Broken Social Scene (heavily recommended by Ondioline)
- MTV Jackass, vol. 2 DVD

all that for under $50 - i'm so pleased. and yeah, i've linked to some Amazon sites when i actually purchased through barnes & noble - comment and complain, why don't you!
Stayin' Up Late

well, it's 9:27, but it looks like i'll be staying up late tonight - based upon my tvguide.com research, tonight channel 7 will be showing one of my two favorite episodes of ER - "Be Still My Heart" - the one where Carter and Lucy get stabbed by a schizophrenic patient. and next Saturday night, channel 7 will be showing the other of my favorite episodes - "All in the Family" - at 11:30pm. in this episode, the whole ER battles to save the lives of Carter and Lucy.

Pouring Wine Down The Drain?

winery owners in France supposely have too much wine - at least too much for the market at hand. so they're gonna destroy the surplus...by distilling it into industrial-use alcohol. mmmmmm.......industrial-use alcohol.

this is a cool article, in which NFL players tell what really happens when one tries to recover a fumble. and keep in mind, some players don't wear cups to increase their speed and mobility...

thanks to Christine for the tip...
The Days After...

after NFL players retire, most are removed from the spotlight - even the great ones. we don't get to see the long-term damage to their bodies and minds after they're no longer able to participate in the Sunday adrenaline rush that is football. here's the sad story of what happened to Steelers center Mike Webster, holder of four Super Bowl rings and a member of the Hall of Fame.

Bring It On

yeah, it's almost time for some football. some snowy football. NFC and AFC Championship Games are coming up on Sunday. back to back, with the Falcons/Eagles at 3:00 and the Patriots/Steelers at 6:30. get your TVs fired up, baby!
Daggers

i just saw "House of Flying Daggers." it was OK, with a few impressive scenes, but overall, it wasn't good enough. i think it was overrated. if you see one of Zhang Yimou's movies this year, go see "Hero," a film that's more beautiful and moving of a picture.

Dumb

i just finished watching "Ronin." boy, was it dumb. that pretty much sums it up. a few cool actors, such as jean reno, robert deniro and the like, yet it was an utter waste of my time. boy, it really sucked!
New Windows

surviving former employees of the WTC restaurant, "Windows on the World," have come together to create a new employee-owned restaurant, "Colors."
Fuck!

so i turned on the tv at 9:25, in plenty of time to watch some new Scrubs, which usually comes on at 9:30, right? wrong. i got some Scrubs alright - the last 2 minutes of Scrubs, which NBC, in their great wisdom, moved to 9:00 without telling me! fuckers!

Yeah, It's For Charity, But...

gwen stefani, pink, the osbournes, elton john, rod stewart, steven tyler, and a bunch of others are recording a cover of eric clapton's "Tears In Heaven." yeah, it's for charity, which is good, but how about respecting the sanctity of the song, which clapton wrote after the death of his 4-year old son, Conor?
Back on the Movie Train

new Scrubs tonight, by the way...

well, i saw two movies last night (one at the movies, one in the living room) - "Sideways," which was supposed to be one of the best movies of the year, and "In America," which actually ranks as one of the best movies i've seen this year.

though "Sideways" has its moments (Thomas Hayden Church is a playa, yo!), it pretty much just makes me want to go out and get drunk on wine (bust out the pinot, yo!). "In America" was a touching little movie, well-acted, and it sneakily pulls you into the life of the family it follows. well worth the rental fee.

Cut the Cake

here i sit, watching the ending credits for "Star Trek III," waiting for "Star Trek IV" to follow. i haven't shaved for many, many days, and consequently, i look like i've been living on the street for some time. i'm not looking forward to shaving tomorrow for work, even though i have one of gilette's many products, the Mach 3 Turbo. even the turbo can't help me now. anyway, i'll soon be off to go see "Sideways," a movie which has gotten much Oscar hype. i'm curious to see what it's all about.
The Odd, the Ugly, and the Sexy

here's a little article on the faces that rockers make when they play -

Andy Griffith

i'm currently diggin' the mp3 "Matlock in A Tree," by local band, Politicks - go to their site, go to the music section, and take a listen. most of the applications on the site don't work, yes, I know, but the music one does. "Matlock in A Tree" - it's funky. it's rockin'. it's funk-rockin'.

Takes the Barr

and i'm diggin' Niki Barr's new song, "Just Like You." true, the bass line was ganked from the Steve Miller Band, but hey, the song rocks, nonetheless.
MXC

now that Jackass is off the air, MXC is my new favorite show - after Scrubs, of course. oh man, the show is a blast!

Dodgers Sign Derek Lowe...

...and buy five vials of crack, most likely. $36 million for 4 years on a fragile, erratic pitcher who was 14-12 with a 5.42 ERA last year? that can't be good.
Marley Returning to Africa One More Time

Bob Marley's wife plans to exhume the remains of Bob Marley from Jamaica and return them to "his spiritual resting place," Ethiopia. You dig?
Portion-Savvy

are you portion-savvy? then take this quiz... for some reason, this doesn't sound quite as manly a topic as it did in my mind. oh well.
Oh My

well, it's 2:02am, and i'm watching Tank Girl and eating triscuits and wispride. it's rather surreal. in fact, it's very surreal. there's kangaroo men walking around on the screen. and they're talking. and one of them sounds like Ice-T. i think it's almost time to go back to bed. so here's a little tidbit before i go back to the land of nod - the Black Crowes are reforming for a five-night stand at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom.

What To See In 2005

here's a list of some of the primo movies set for 2005 release....

Tuesday, January 04, 2005

Sponge-worthy

two players have been deemed worthy of the Baseball Hall of Fame - 3B Wade Boggs, a lifetime .328 hitter, and 2B Ryne Sandberg, a player about whom i really have nothing to say. i definitely feel Boggs is a HOF-er - he was one amazing hit machine. and i'm cool with Sandberg being voted in - perhaps that will quell the Ron Santo whiners. as for the rest of this year's potential members, the class was weak, and i'm glad to see that voters are maintaining some standards of entry this year, whereas they appeared to be letting every tom, dick, and kirby in during the past few years.
Jenny?

this dude called up every "867-5309" phone number for every area code out there. and he logged the responses. get out your cell phones, everyone!

The Best

here's a list of the 10 Best Movies of 2004, according to CNN.com - i'd put one together myself, but i have no idea what came out in 2004. instead, i give you my top movie of the year,"Hero." if i saw one that was better, i can't remember.

and here's a list of many critics' "Top 10 Albums of 2004." once again, no Top 10 Album List from me, cus i have no idea what CDs came out this year. and i've been rather lax in my purchasing of "new" CDs. I will say that I am digging the new Green Day CD.

Scion

i enjoy the new Scion tC coupe. it's attractive, affordable, and it's made by Toyota.
