city council in Houston has passed a series of ordinances designed to discourage homeless people from squatting in public libraries. the new ordinance prohibits sleeping on tables, eating, using restrooms for bathing and "offensive bodily hygiene that constitutes a nuisance to others." so if you're in houston, and you want to use the library, for god's sake, man, make sure you take a shower!

Paula Strikes Back
NEW YORK - Paula Abdul is taking pre-emptive measures to squash a controversy sparked by an upcoming ABC special on "American Idol." Though the exact nature of the "Primetime Live" special, "Fallen Idol," remains unknown, ABC has said it will "explore explosive claims about behind-the-scenes activities" at the Fox talent contest.

Corey Clark, a 24-year-old former American Idol contestant, is claiming that he had a “secret affair” with Paula Abdul, the 42-year-old judge from the hit show, according to the new issue of Globe magazine. oh, do i feel tabloid-ish by including this on my blog. but i'll get over it.

If You Listen, Will It Make A Sound?
i'm guessing no. BBC Radio's "Sunday Worship" usually features Christian services, but will this week be broadcast from a meeting held by Quakers, whose meetings are centred around a long period of quiet contemplation by the gathered participants -- usually lasting around an hour -- with no hymns, sermons, spoken prayers or priests.

Can We Hibernate?
it'd be cool if we could. it drastically reduces the amount of oxygen that we need, and it slows our body processes, which could be helpful in fighting certain medical ailments. read about what scientists have accomplished with mice here.

many times this season on American Idol, Paula Abdul has looked drunk. and high. and drunk and high. but she claims that "she's not addicted to pills of any kind." in this article she gives the lowdown on her battle with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, car accidents, depression, and previous pill usage. but she's much better now. really. just watch the show.

Sam Mills
Sam Mills, a former All-Pro linebacker for the Saints, Panthers and Philadelphia Stars (USFL), and a current Carolina Panthers assistant coach, died today of intestinal cancer. He had been battling the illness for nearly two years. Mills was only 45 years old.
Though only 5'9", he was one of the toughest linebackers in the NFL, and during his heyday with the Saints, Mills teamed with Vaughan Johnson, Pat Swilling, and Rickey Jackson to form one of the greatest linebacking units of all time.

Sin City
I just got back from seeing the $7 matinee of "Sin City." Based on Frank Miller’s graphic novels, it was one of the most absurdly violent movies I’ve ever seen. Then again, that tends to be the norm when Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino join forces (see “From Dusk Till Dawn”).
With its visually stunning style and first-person narration, the movie goes for a film noir vibe, though it lacks the subtlety of the genre. Sin City is a feast for the senses, but the scarred characters and Tarantino-esque intertwined plotlines didn’t draw me in and make me actually care about what was happening. It was more like watching a gory, overproduced car wreck.
However, I must say that it’s not often that one can see B-movie veterans like Powers Boothe, Rutger Hauer, and Mickey Rourke (nice work!) share the screen with the likes of Bruce Willis and Bencio Del Toro, while holding their own in the process.

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African zoo is trying to persuade its star chimpanzee to kick a bad smoking habit. Charlie, a grown male chimp and the Bloemfontein Zoo, has been picking up cigarettes thrown to him by visitors and smoking them -- a habit he probably picked up by observing humans, zoo officials told the SAPA news agency on Thursday.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - A talking Jesus doll is due in stores in May, along with versions of Moses and the Virgin Mary, according to a published report Tuesday.
The New York Post reports that the foot-tall dolls can recite up to 33 Biblical verses at the push of button in the doll's back. The three dolls are the first of a series of dolls based on bible characters, according to the paper. Dolls of Esther, Ruth and David are also planned, the paper reports.

Madam
man, i'm still a bit groggy. i hosted the Six Points show at Madam's Organ last night, and i didn't end up getting to bed until after 2:30 am. which is late for me! i had never seen the bands that played until last night, and they put on some good live shows, which was good, considering i was there for the whole evening! i especially enjoyed the last band, Rude Dog's Rhythm Revue, a funky blues band that was especially rockin', with Jimmy Sexton playing some kickass lead guitar. and, for those subway fans out there, Jared was at Madam's Organ last night, out drinking with the people, standing right next to me...

apparently, TO's seven-year, 49 million-dollar contract isn't enough - he's hired superagent Drew Rosenhaus to represent him and try to get some more money out of the eagles. now don't get me wrong, i'd love to see the eagles' salary cap get severely hammered, but when a player signs a lucrative deal and then wants to renegotiate one year later, that's just wrong.
