Yummy

for some reason, i've been watching a bunch of the Food Network lately - shows like Unwrapped, Good Eats, Food Finds, etc. It's interesting to see how different categories of foods are manufactured (the engineer in me), and i like learning about various types of food from all over the country. since i don't cook 'em, i can sit back and watch and learn...
Some Rock

as it sit here, watching "office space," i'll write a bit on the show that i just saw with christine last night at cary hudson opened the show - i'd seen him before with his band opening for marah, and he kicked ass - unfortunately, this time, it was cary by himself with his guitar - not so much kick ass. the sound is just not there, and cary's just not free to rock and play scorching guitar... still, his best song, "Things Just Ain't What They Used to Be," still packs a punch, with my favorite tag line, "ain't no more Indians in Indianola, ain't no more cocaine in Coca-Cola, ain't no more you in you and me, things just ain't how they used to be."

then john eddie and his band came on stage and rocked the place. he had great stage presence, kind of like a buzzed combination of john travolta and bruce springsteen, and his songwriting is sharp as a tack. he started late, at 10:00, but, fueled by Stoli, he was still putting on a great show when i left at 12:30 (hey, i get tired!)...

Driving in the Ocean

YES!  i now have my driver's license back, after having it "invalid" for a month!  no, i wasn't driving with a big bottle of maker's mark in hand - a couple of workers at the DMV locale where i transferred my license to VA from NJ were found guilty of selling IDs for cash.  unfortunately for them (and for me), they were caught, and virginia, in its wisdom, decided to invalidate all of the workers' transactions.  which included my license transfer.  but it's finally all settled.

ocean's eleven is a freaking cool movie - each time i watch it i come up with that conclusion.  and don cheadle with a cockney accent as banger?  excellent.
Spidey's Back

i just saw spiderman 2 - definitely an entertaining summer "popcorn" movie, one that should be seen on the big screen - though both the first one and the sequel are good adaptations of the spiderman character, i still prefer the animated series that aired during the late nineties.  anyway, S2 explored mr. peter parkers struggles in his personal life, along with his secret "professional" one, and there was a good deal of pulling on the heartstrings.  i expecially enjoyed alfred molina's performance as dr. otto octavius (Doc Ock).  very cool special effects for this character - it almost makes me wish that i had four extra arms sprouting out of my torso.  i give the movie a B+,

How 'Bout a Heated Drink?

And you thought everclear was strong....try some antifreeze!!!

It looks like Shaq is headed to the Heat...
L'Oreal on the Pantheon?

i wasn't happy when sports teams started letting corporations slap their dirty advertising onto stadium names - names such as Candlestick or Mile High that had been ingrained into the tradition of the sport. once again, advertising is dirtying history - this time in Rome, and this time on thousand-year-old historical structures. will this ever stop?
